Overview
Is a Tummy Tuck
Right for Me?
A tummy tuck is designed to address the changes that can occur after pregnancy or significant weight loss, many of which cannot be corrected through diet and exercise alone. Common concerns include:
- Loose or excess abdominal skin
- Separation of the abdominal muscles (diastasis recti)
- A persistent abdominal bulge
- Changes in the lower abdomen or pubic area
- A C-section “shelf”
- Stretch marks on the lower abdomen
If these concerns sound familiar, a tummy tuck may help restore a flatter, smoother, and more supported abdominal contour.
The Modern Tummy Tuck
A tummy tuck is about much more than removing extra skin. Today's techniques allow us to address the entire abdominal wall, creating a result that looks natural and complements your overall figure.
Depending on your anatomy and goals, your procedure may include tightening the abdominal muscles, removing excess skin, contouring the waist with liposuction, improving the appearance of the belly button, and enhancing the transition between the abdomen and pubic area. Every surgical plan is individualized.
Many of my patients are already healthy, active women who exercise, eat well, and take excellent care of themselves. They're not looking for perfection—they're looking to address changes that diet and exercise simply can't correct.

YOUR OPTIONS
Planning Your Procedure
Every tummy tuck is personalized to your anatomy and goals. Depending on what you'd like to address, your procedure may include:
Muscle Repair
Restoring the abdominal wall
Separated abdominal muscles (diastasis recti) are brought back together and sutured from the sternum to the pubic bone, restoring core strength and creating a flatter, firmer abdomen.
Loose or excess abdominal skin that doesn't respond to diet and exercise is removed, creating a smoother, more supported contour.
Liposuction can be used to refine the waist and improve the transition between the abdomen and surrounding areas for a more balanced silhouette.
The belly button is repositioned and reshaped to look natural and proportional to your newly contoured abdomen.
The transition between the abdomen and pubic area is enhanced, addressing changes in the lower abdomen and pubic region.
If an umbilical hernia is present, it can often be repaired at the same time as your tummy tuck, coordinated with a general surgeon so you have one recovery instead of two.

Mini vs. Full Tummy Tuck
Whether a mini tummy tuck or full tummy tuck is right for you depends on your anatomy and whether the changes you'd like to address are limited to the lower abdomen or involve the entire abdomen.
Comparing Your Options
Both approaches can create beautiful results. The right choice depends on your anatomy, goals, and the extent of correction needed.

Recovery
The Path to Results
- First WeekDrains are removed and a compression garment is worn to support healing and reduce swelling
- 2–3 WeeksGradually return to desk work, driving, and daily activities, with lifting restricted to five to ten pounds
- About 6 WeeksGradually resume exercise and more strenuous activity as you're cleared at your follow-up visit
- 3–6 MonthsFinal results continue to refine as swelling resolves and your abdomen settles
Successful recovery begins long before surgery. Before your procedure, you'll have a comprehensive preoperative appointment where we'll review what to expect during recovery, answer your questions, and help you feel confident and prepared for the weeks ahead.
Most patients benefit from having help at home during the first week after surgery and are able to gradually return to desk work and many normal daily activities within approximately 2–3 weeks. We'll provide detailed postoperative instructions and guide you through each stage of recovery, including activity restrictions, returning to exercise, and what to expect as your body heals.
Surgery is just one part of the journey. Allowing your body time to heal and following your recovery plan play an important role in achieving the best possible result.
