Is Fat Grafting
Right for You?
Fat grafting to the buttocks and hips, commonly referred to as a Brazilian Butt Lift or BBL, allows us to use your own fat to reshape the silhouette while maintaining natural, balanced proportions.
By combining liposuction with fat grafting, we have greater control over the overall shape of the body. We can remove fat from areas such as the waist, flanks, and lower back while adding volume to the hips, hip dips, and buttocks. My goal is to create smooth, harmonious transitions from the waist through the hips and buttocks and into the legs while respecting your natural frame.
Fat grafting may be a good option if you would like to improve the shape and proportion of your hips and buttocks using your own fat.
Common concerns include:
- Hip dips or indentations along the outer hips
- A desire for more fullness or projection of the buttocks
- A desire for greater waist definition
- A straight or boxy silhouette
- Hips that feel narrow in proportion to the waist or shoulders
- Asymmetry of the hips or buttocks

Shaping the
Silhouette
Our natural body shape is influenced by where we carry fat, the width of our waist and hips, and the shape of the underlying skeleton. Weight loss and exercise can change the size and composition of the body, but they cannot change these underlying proportions.
Combining liposuction with fat grafting allows us to contour from both directions. In many patients, the liposuction is actually the most important part of reshaping the silhouette. Removing fat from the waist, flanks, and lower back can create greater waist definition and change the relationship between the waist, hips, and buttocks before any volume is added.
Fat grafting then allows us to further refine the shape by adding volume to the hips, hip dips, and buttocks. Small changes in the right areas can make a meaningful difference. Filling a hip dip can create a smoother transition from the waist into the thigh, while adding volume to the outer hips can further accentuate the waist.
The art of body contouring is understanding both where to take away and where to add. The goal is not to maximize the amount of fat removed or transferred, but to use each strategically to create the most balanced, harmonious silhouette.

Creating Your Shape
Every treatment plan combines removing fat from some areas with adding it to others to create the most balanced, harmonious shape.
Removing Fat for Definition
DEFINE
Removing fat from the waist, flanks, and lower back can create greater waist definition and change the relationship between the waist, hips, and buttocks before any volume is added.
ENHANCE
Fat grafting then allows us to further refine the shape by adding volume to the hips, hip dips, and buttocks. Small changes in the right areas can make a meaningful difference.

Your treatment plan will consider where fat should be removed, where volume would be most beneficial, and how much change can be safely achieved.
How Fat Grafting Works
Fat grafting uses your own fat to add volume and shape to the hips and buttocks.
Remove
Fat is first removed with liposuction from areas such as the abdomen, waist, back, and flanks.
Prepare & Transfer
The fat is then carefully prepared and transferred to the areas where additional volume will improve the overall contour.
Settle
Fat is placed strategically throughout the hips and buttocks based on the shape we're trying to create.
Because the transferred fat becomes living tissue in its new location, a portion of the fat will establish a new blood supply and remain long term, while some will naturally be reabsorbed during the healing process.
Natural Results & Harmonious Proportions
Fat grafting gives us the ability to meaningfully change the shape of the body, but that doesn't mean the result needs to look exaggerated or unnatural. My approach is to enhance your proportions while respecting your natural frame.
There is an art to shaping the body. It requires looking beyond any one area and understanding how every curve and transition contributes to the silhouette as a whole. The buttocks should never be considered in isolation. The lower back, waist, hips, buttocks, and thighs all need to transition naturally into one another.
Fat may be added to the buttocks for projection, to the hip dips for a smoother contour, and to the outer hips to create more shape and proportion. The amount of volume added and the shape we create will be different for every patient. The goal is a result that feels harmonious from every angle.
Your Personalized Treatment Plan
Every fat grafting procedure is different because every patient starts with a different body shape. During your consultation, we'll look at your waist, hips, buttocks, and overall proportions together and discuss the silhouette you'd like to create.
Your treatment plan will consider where fat should be removed, where volume would be most beneficial, and how much change can be safely achieved. The amount of fat available for transfer, your starting anatomy, and the tightness of your skin can all influence how much volume can be added in a single procedure.
Some patients want a subtle change in shape, while others want a more noticeable transformation. My goal is to understand the result you want and create a plan to achieve it.
Fat Grafting With a Tummy Tuck or Mommy Makeover
Fat grafting to the hips and buttocks can often be performed at the same time as a tummy tuck or as part of a mommy makeover. Combining procedures allows us to think about the contour of the entire torso rather than treating the abdomen, waist, and buttocks separately.
Hip Dips & Seamless Transitions
For some patients, particularly those with more prominent hip dips, fat grafting is an important part of the overall contour, creating a smoother transition from the newly defined waist into the hips and lower body.
A Harmonious Silhouette
A tummy tuck can flatten and tighten the abdomen, while liposuction defines the waist and fat grafting adds shape to the hips and buttocks. Together, these procedures can create a balanced and harmonious silhouette.
Recovery
Settling In
Recovery after fat grafting involves healing from both the liposuction and the fat transfer. Swelling and bruising are expected, and you'll wear compression garments over the areas treated with liposuction to help support healing and your new contour.
During the early recovery period, it is important to minimize pressure on the areas where fat has been transferred. We'll give you specific instructions for sitting, sleeping, activity, and compression based on the areas treated and your individual procedure.

Your shape will change as swelling resolves and the transferred fat establishes a new blood supply. Some of the transferred fat will naturally be reabsorbed, while the fat that survives becomes a long-term part of your body. It can take several months for the final contour to become apparent.
